Introduction:

TDR stands for Ticket Deposit Receipt which is a refund claim that passengers can submit to IRCTC via ixigo where ticket cancellation is not a viable option (in majority of cases). There are 17 scenarios under which TDR can be filed within certain timeline laid out by Indian Railway. However, filing of TDR doesn’t guarantee refund as the decision about the acceptance / rejection of the TDR is taken by the concerned Zonal Railways as per Refund rules of Indian Railways and not by IRCTC. Here ixigo works as a mediator only where we pass on the TDR request to IRCTC which in turn escalates to Indian Railways.

TDR Important Points:

  • There are a total seventeen scenarios under which a TDR can be filed. Every scenario has a different criterion for filing.
  • TDR filing is not required in case of train cancellation.
  • Any user who has booked via ixigo can’t file TDR under reason “Missing the connecting train due to late running of first Train” since we don’t provide connecting PNR booking.
  • Both ticket cancellation and TDR filing is not allowed for the same ticket.
  • The refund process under TDR may take up to 60 days or more. The delay is from the Indian Railway only.
  • Auxiliary charges like IRCTC convenience Fee, IRCTC insurance fee, Free cancellation charge, Agent service charge & PG charges paid at the time of booking are non-refundable.
  • On certain occasions apart from filing the TDR online, customer needs to obtain Original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff (TTE) and send it to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi - 110055.
  • In scenarios where GC/EFT certificate is mandatory, customer is advised to fill the EFT details while filing the TDR online
  • For detailed reference on TDR one can refer to the shared link http://contents.irctc.co.in/en/REFUND%20RULES%20wef%2012-Nov-15.pdf

FaQs

  1. Question : What is my TDR status? Answer : You can check the status of your filed TDR in the trip section of the Trains app. If you're having trouble understanding the status or if it's unclear, please let us know, and we'll check it for you and provide an update.  Note: Agents can view the filed TDR status using the IRCTC Agent Interface.

  1. Question : My train is cancelled. Do I need to file a TDR to get a refund? Answer : No, if your train is entirely cancelled, the refund will be automatically initiated. TDR filing is only necessary if the cancelled train is restored and you no longer wish to board that train.
  2. Question : Can I cancel my TDR request after filing it? Answer : No, once a TDR has been filed, it cannot be cancelled.
  3. Question - Can I still board the train after filing a TDR? Answer : It is advisable not to board the train after filing a TDR, as the TTE may have already reallocated your seat to another passenger. If you choose to board the train anyway, it will be at your own risk.
  4. Question : How will I be notified about the status of my TDR? Answer : After the Indian Railways completes its investigation of your TDR, you will receive an email confirmation on your registered email address with IRCTC, whether your TDR is approved for a refund or rejected.
  5. Question - What should I do if my TDR is rejected? Answer : Typically, once a TDR is rejected, no further action can be taken, as the decision by Indian Railways is final and binding.
  6. Question - Is there a way to appeal or review a rejected TDR? Answer :You can try raising a query with RailMadad, but a positive outcome is not guaranteed.
  7. Question : What percentage of the ticket fare will I get back after filing a TDR? Answer : The refund amount is determined solely by Indian Railways, and ixigo cannot comment on or guarantee any specific amount until it is approved by the Railways.
  8. Question : I am unable to find the TDR filing option on the app. What should I do? Answer : Don't worry, we can file the TDR on your behalf. Please provide us with the reason for filing the TDR and share the EFT details obtained from the TTE if you are filing post-boarding. We will check if the filing window is still open and proceed with the filing. If we are also unable to file, please send an email to etickets@irctc.co.in from your registered email ID, requesting IRCTC to file the TDR on your behalf.

  1. Question : What if my TDR request is marked as pending for a long time? Answer : In such cases, you can raise your grievance with RailMadad   but please note that a positive outcome is not guaranteed, as TDR decisions are solely at the discretion of Indian Railways.
